Chinese Government Report on 2024 Results: Development Goals Achieved

Today in Beijing, at the 3rd session of the 14th National People’s Congress, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Li Qiang, presented a report on the work of the government. The results for 2024 were summarized, and key successes in the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, which concludes in 2025, were noted. Priorities and targets for the current year were also outlined, reports Phoenix 24.

Summarizing the work for 2024, Li Qiang noted that the goals and tasks of socio-economic development set for the past year were successfully accomplished. The development of new quality productive forces, strengthening China’s economic, scientific, and technological power, became the basis for the comprehensive construction of a modernized socialist state in the new era.

“China’s GDP reached 134.9 trillion yuan, an increase of 5%, which allowed China to take a leading position among the world’s major economies in terms of economic growth rates, and its contribution to global economic growth remained at around 30%,” the document states.

12.56 million new jobs were created in urban and rural areas, the average unemployment rate, calculated based on sample surveys in urban and rural areas, was 5.1%, and the consumer price index increased by 0.2%. Foreign exchange reserves exceeded 3.2 trillion US dollars, and the real growth of per capita disposable income was 5.1%.

Significant successes have been achieved in the field of production modernization, the development of innovative technologies, and environmental improvement. Among the 7 key areas demonstrating achievements over the past period, the following were noted:

  • economic recovery through effective macro-regulation,
  • deepening state-owned enterprise reforms and expanding openness,
  • development of innovation and modernization of the production structure,
  • rural development,
  • development of the social sphere and improvement of public welfare,
  • environmental protection and promotion of low-carbon development,
  • innovative approaches to public administration and the fight against corruption.
